"We want to go much further than just having recycling bins in our office so we got hold of a really useful book to help us kick start our eco journey - "Make a difference at work" ISBN 978-1-84525-050-8. From this little green bible we've made the following three pledges to complete before the end of January 2010. And yes before you ask the book was made from paper endorsed by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).

January 2010 eco office pledges...

Change our loo role to FSC certified paper.

our progress...

Replace expired office lighting with energy saving bulbs.

our progress...

Introduce battery recycling

Choosing eco loo roll is a pain in the bum.

posted 20th Jan 2010

When you boss sends you out of the office to go buy some eco friendly loo roll be prepared for uber eco babble.

Go down any supermarket loo roll aisle and the majority of the manufacturers have all jumped on the eco band wagon pulled no doubt by a donkey fed on low emission, zero pesticide carrots.

Loo paper eco labelling includes:

  • Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) post-consumer waste
  • FSC mixed sources label
  • 100% recycled
  • 100% recycled non bleached
  • 100% recovered fibres

It's at this very moment you realise a degree in eco labels may indeed be useful but read on, we are about to cut through all the eco babble and point you in the right direction keeping your green halo firmly intact. The most virtuous is 100% recycled non bleached or FSC labelled post-consumer waste loo roll. Anything else is just marketing smoke and mirrors.

So what loo roll did we swing for? We furnished our office loos with Lotus Professional made from 100% UK & Ireland recovered fibre. For more info check out: lotus professional

We hope this article makes choosing eco loo roll less of a pain in the bum. And if your office supplier can’t offer loo roll meeting basic eco credentials then don’t despair there are plenty of suppliers that will.
